Car Boot Archive FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about this website and features.
What is this site about?
The site aims to list any car boot sales across the country. It will become a directory of all events that are known to run, and provide as much information on an event as possible.
Each event gets its own page complete with a map, address information, and details about the event, and a link to the website of the event (if any). We also plot all events on a larger map to help you locate nearby events.
Events should be treated on equal footing with one another - we do not aim to create a competition between any events.
The site will provide additional benefits for registered users too, whether the user is a buyer, seller, or event organiser. The goal is also to form a community for those who regularly attend such events for any purpose.
The goals are to:
- Create a community of people who regularly attend events
- Make it very easy to find nearby events, and when they run
- Give events as much positive exposure as we can provide
Who can add an event?
Anyone can. You don't even have to be registered to add an event, but they do require authorisation before being made public - we check for deliberate misuse, and try to ensure that the data is accurate. We do not want incorrect information to be listed about an event.
How do I add an event to the map?
This is automatically done when adding an event. We get the marker based on the provided postcode, but based on the nature of postcodes, this marker could end up badly off position. In this case, people can place the marker more accurately by clicking "Edit map" on any event page.
What happens if someone adds incorrect information?
Because anyone can edit content on the site, data is held in a revision system. You do not exactly 'edit' an event, but create a new revision based on the information already given. People can then vote on the accuracy of a revision, which may become the "master" revision (the copy used by default for the event).
If an event organiser manages an event, then revision voting becomes irrelevant - ideally the event organiser would know the details of his/her own event in perfect detail.
I attended an event at a time listed on your site, and the event had been cancelled.
We are sorry to hear that - we do aim to give as accurate information as possible, but the event may have been cancelled for a variety of reasons beyond out control. We cannot be held responsible for event cancellations, and likewise, and event organiser cannot be held responsible for information stored on this site.
