Author notes
(The following is sourced from Chiswick's community school's web site):
This is one of the most successful car boot sales in the South East and for both sellers and buyers it is very lucrative. All money raised from the entrance fees goes to the school. The sales are run by parent volunteers from the school PTA, which is a registered charity.
There is very limited parking - before 9am £5 per car (including passengers), after 9am only available for disabled drivers or passengers £3 per car.
Tables can be hired at £5 each with a deposit of £25. Sellers are let in from 7 am. The sales hours are from 8am – 1pm.
Chiswick students may sell their own possessions at the sales as ‘walkers-in’ and will not be charged but if a student is accompanied by a parent with a car, normal rates will apply. They can rent a table at no charge, using their School Diary as a deposit. If the items for sale belong to the parents, the normal hire fee applies.
There are a few rules: no cigarettes or alcohol for sale and of course nothing illegal! Also the site is completely no smoking and dogs are not allowed.
Please try to come on public transport - there is very limited parking and strictly enforced restrictions on the nearby streets. The E3 bus (from Chiswick/Turnham Green/Acton/Ealing) stops right outside the school and the 190 bus (from Hammersmith) just round the corner. There is a BR station (Chiswick) 5 minutes walk away.
Parents/Carers
If you would like to help out and join a team of volunteers it only means 2 or 3 times a year and only for a few hours, as there are four teams. The doors open at 7am so the first shift for helpers is from 6-9, the second from 9-12. Then it’s fewer people clearing up. Hot food and drinks are available so you can always come for breakfast!
The car boot sales were started in around 1984 with about 80 cars. We are now the fifth largest car boot sale in the South East. The sales are great fun and a good way to meet other parents so if you are a parent/carer with a child at the school and are interested in helping at the sales, please email Jay Sordyl
Many of the helpers and even some of the organisers carry on helping after their children have left the school – there’s a great atmosphere and the help for the school is so significant.
We hold an annual drinks ‘do’ for all volunteer helpers in January.
We do hope you would like to join us, as the more volunteers there are the easier it is!
